Steaming Springs by hero339 Steaming Springs by hero339
This thriving town at the northern edge of a vast swamp is featured in my current Pathfinder game, the Age of Worms.

The map was created using Corel Painter and Photoshop along with some excellent buildings and other features found on the Dundjinni forums. A hearty thank you to the talented folks there for making their .pngs available to map designers.

What program did you use to do this design? I'm looking for a program that can be using to build my rpg scenarios, you could show me one? Thank you and congratulations on the design!

The water looks awesome. I tried to do something similar with "find edges" filter, but didn't come close. Would you share the secret, how it's done?

Hi Tomas,

Glad you like the map. It was a fun one to make.
The water is a photo of a river that has been heavily altered in Photoshop. For this particular effect, I overlayed it on a gradient to get some dark blue to gray-green variation. Then I think I used a Paint Daubs filter to give it a more painterly look. I cloned some of waves that I liked into other areas. Once I had the land masses set (and the shadows that go with them), I gave the shorelines some tiny waves by dodging into the midtones and highlights with a small brush.

I hope that helps. There really is no magic way to get the water to look like this. Just lots of work. :)

Thanks for looking.

Still going through it. We only play every couple of weeks, so it will be years before we finish. On Chapter 4 now. :)

Oh thank you so much. I collect cool photos for use in my maps. This one was found at www.cgtextures.com/ and then altered and painted over, etc.

Thanks for checking out my maps.

I play on Roll20 and those maps you make, would definitely come handy for all the other Roll20 players!

Thank you so much. This is one of my very favorite maps. My gaming group recently visited Steaming Springs and had a great time exploring the city. Boats are for hire to get from the north side to the south and also to the islands.
